Eh, I’m a bit suspicious of anything claiming it’s by the “visionary director of 300”. That movie sucked, and I don’t like it when people refer to themselves as visionaries.
Do we really need one more excuse for the SPFX guys to show off what their newfangled computers can do? Given the way the preview is structured (and past experience with these sorts of movies) – my guess is that the script sucks and that this will be 120 minutes of really expensive special effects shots compiled together in some rough semblance of a story.

Wait! I didn’t know they were making a movie out of this! How exciting!

Adam… this isn’t a random movie with a hack script (hopefully).
Do you know what Watchmen is?
And I liked 300…

This looks way neat. The graphic novel was really good and from what I’ve read the movie script stayed pretty true to the original story, which was, I repeat: awesome.
If you haven’t read Watchmen yet, you should. Like, now.

300 was very enjoyable, though hardly “visionary.”
Somebody fill me in. What is watchmen?

Much like Chrono Trigger, Sara figured out how cool Watchmen was after I forced her into reading it.
It’s a really fantastic graphic novel, Andy. Artful storytelling, believable characters, great plot… it’s ridiculously cool. You can borrow my copy if you want to read it. I highly recommend it.

I also have to enthusiastically endorse the graphic novel. So awesome. A guy I knew in high school made me read it and at the time, I hadn’t read a single graphic novel yet and I totally loved it.

Watchmen is a graphic novel by Alan Moore that, briefly, elevated the medium and introduced the world to literary comics. It’s impossible to overstate the impact that the original work has had on comics over the last thirty years.
At least 90% of the scenes in the trailer were taken directly from frames in the comic, which I hope implies a conscious effort on the part of the director to hew close to the source material’s visuals (which, again – revolutionary in their artistry. Think something on the scale of what Citizen Kane did for film).

I do admit that I have absolutely no experience with this “Watchmen” thing.
But… I will say that many a graphic novel turned movie that everyone swore up and down would be amazing because of how influential and amazing the novel was turned out to be cinematic drivel. I’ll probably see this movie (I may be snarky about it – but I like explosions and flying, too) – but I do not have my hopes set high for it to be much more than another two-hour special effects extravaganza.
