So knowing almost no one in Richmond (yet! – I’m probably joining a co-ed kickball/drinking league later this week) I’ve been spending the weekend building my iPod collection. Torrents make this easy!

However

It seems like assembling a tasteful iPod is an essential part of being a White Person as defined by a certain blog. Since many certifiable White People are readers of this bulletin board, I’m curious whether any of you have any advice on how to go about doing this!

Be tasteful? Sorry, champ. Taste is something you have to cultivate on your own.

Or just copy people you like.

no no but there are easy ways to present taste

like putting all of your pretentious books on one shelf in plain view and all of your trashy books out of sight

1) Don’t show people your iPod.

2) Change the coding information on the sketchy tracks so that it displays as something obscure that no one would actually want to play but would respect you for having. The “Proust” of the music world.

3) Don’t worry about having a tasteful iPod.

I’m going to agree with Cameron’s statement #3.

I say build out a music library that you want to listen to – and to hell with anyone else. Tell ‘em to get their own damned iPods.

Also – Art – seriously… it’s time for a new avatar.

I guess, since I neither own an iPod, nor consider myself as a White Person, this is a hard one for me to contribute to…. :(

this has become an interesting thread and I think our statements about our purported iPod-filling strategies are really quite telling
