I’m going to go ahead and add “A Night at the Opera” by Queen. Honestly, it’s actually better if you take out Bohemian Rhapsody, which is weird but oh so awesome.

what else..

everyone says Sgt Pepper’s but as someone born after 1965 I have to reject that on the grounds of boomer-hatred

do you think that and ideal album you really need a concept album’s coherency and direction?

edit Pink Floyd put out a couple of sublime albums… I haven’t listened to Dark Side of the Moon enough to take a stand but The Wall (especially with the accompanying Gerald Scarfe animations) is a perfect depiction of alienation and loneliness. So if we can nominate dark albums, there it is

Probably “Blue Sky and the Devil” by Trampled by Turtles. I loved two of the songs the instant I heard them, and it plunged me into the dirty, pot-smoke-filled world of bluegrass. I still listen to it to this day, probably every single day at work. Like a black hole of greatness, it has sucked me and everyone who orbits me into it. That’s right, Cameron, Sam, Art and Julie. You’re simply tiny moons stuck in my massive gravitational field. Except Cameron, who is more like an effeminate asteroid than a moon.
