so

I have my new rig up and running. But – gasp!

I’m running a legal copy of windows XP 32-bit!

But – gasp! It only recognizes 3.5 GB of my RAM!

Have any of you toyed with the 64-bit version of Windows? I’ve got the processor, I could probably exploit the new OS quite nicely and I’d be able to use all of my memory. However – I hear it has significant problems with device drivers.

I could have told you that XP won’t recognize 4 gigs of ram.

I would just not worry about it. Wait until they make you upgrade… XP is better for gaming.

there’s a 64-bit version of XP. I think I’m going to try it out for free using a special promo offered through TPB ^^

The funny thing is, I was digging around for a cable and discovered a genuine licensed copy of XP Pro x64 I’d gotten through the U a few years ago. Oh well.

I thought that the 64-bit version of XP was all weird and incompatible with stuff for some reason…

The problem was (when it was released) that you couldn’t use 32-bit drivers with it, and most hardware out there in 05 did not have a 64-bit driver released. All my stuff’s new, so no problem.
